had identical watch for years so very familiar with watch. i knew what i wanted as my old one is misplaced but in bad shape from my years of abuse. i love that my "little black book" is on my wrist. i even keep phone #'s for pizza hut, electric company ect. saves a lot of time and grief. has a timer that will go off only once or continually starts another cycle over and over untul shut off. i have it set to go off every year on my anniversary. i do not have to reset it, it goes off every year at the same time. this feature alone can be a life saver to forgetfull guys and more than the cost of the watch in expensive resturants if you forgot your anniverary!!! only watch i will and have worn for 30 years. i ordered this late aug 25, they shipped it on the 26th from new york, i had it in florida on the 27th!!! talk about blazing shipping!!! will definitely deal with again!!!

Casio Databank

| I buy a new one of these every 3 to 5 years, it seems. I like the calculator, one-year-in-advance alarms, and the phonebook functions. They are simple but useful to me. For birthdays and anniversaries, you can have an annual alarm rollover without having to enter it again. Overall a very handy product. The only con I can think of is it goes thru batteries and they are not easy to change correctly. But I really like it anyway. This watch will not get you any fashion points--but I didn't want any. |

| The Casio DBC310-1 Databank Men's watch is better than ever and easier to use than the newer version. It is unsurpassed for ease of information retrieval and input. It keeps accurate time and battery needs to be changed only every two years by a professional. Information is not lost. It is a time keeper, calendar, stop watch, alarm, and appointments calendar. Plus it is a smart watch. Watch needs to be replaced every 5 years. Great value for the money. Computer and cell phone do not rival it for convenience. |
casio 300 databank

I've been using the casio databanks since they came out years ago, so i'm probably a little bias.
I just like the simplicity and the functionality of the watches myself. I also like having all my phone numbers and appointments on my wrist to access at a moments notice. I know you can do the same thing with most cell phones these days.....but how many times have you heard someone complain because they've lost thier cell phone and all of thier important numbers and contacts etc.
the DBC310-1 has space for 300 phone numbers and/or appointments, world times, stop watch and count down timer, alarm, calculator, a back lit face, and it alerts you to appointments on the display as well.
And the best part of it all......you're not constantly setting it down to be lost or damaged. If nothing else...it would be a great back up to your cell phone as a place to keep your phone numbers and appointments. |

| I have been using one of the Casio Data Banks for about 20 years. Every 2 years I replace the battery. Every 4-5 years I buy a newer model. I still have 2 or 3 old ones that still run sitting in a drawer. I store all my phone #s and calendar appointments on it. I also use it to calculate medication doses, currency conversions, etc. The world time zone and stop watch and timer functions come in handy very frequently. It's not as quick or powerful as a PDA, it can't make telephone calls and it's not as simple to use as a pocket calendar, but it's with me all of the time. |

| This is a great watch. I have worn out two prior to this. I have always been rough on watches and this model has held up well. The only bad thing is the band attachment with the little pins. They fail with great regularity and have to be replaced. A better engineered attachment would be nice. |
A successor to my DBC-610
|
| Review Date: June 14, 2007 |
| Reviewer: R. Lemieux, California, USA |
Before getting this watch I owned two (or was it three?) of the simliar Casio DBC-610 models, which are now officially discontinued but still available. These are the only watches I've owned over the last 20+ years. Some aspects of this newer model (and the similar DBC-150 and DBC-1500) are improvements, but others are not. Here's the scoop:
DBC-310 pros:
1. The backlight is much better looking than the older type, and should require less power to operate. The backlight on my old one has failed completely.
2. Instructions for this model say that the user data is retained when the battery is removed. Not so with the older one.
3. This one has more data storage (room for 300 entries vs. 50) and improved functions such as search capability.
4. The implementation of some controls has been improved. This makes it less likely to accidentally press a button and change a setting.
5. I chose the black plastic case this time rather than the metal-plated plastic case of the DBC-610. The metal plating always wears off eventually, leaving parts of the underlying plastic exposed. This is actually my main gripe about the old model.
DBC-310 cons:
1. The viewing angle of the LCD is different and not as good. I have to rotate my wrist a little too far to see the characters properly.
2. Along with the plastic case comes a resin (plastic) band. It does feel good on my hand, but the standard buckle is a step backward from the hinged latch of the old model.
3. The case is rounder and slightly larger in all dimensions. I prefer the clean, sleek lines of the old model. I also don't like the narrow spacing of the outer two columns of buttons. That looks like a design mistake.
The structure of the keypad is different as well. The old keypad was a flat membrane, but the new one has raised buttons. I won't really know for a year or two if this is an improvement or not.
Both watches have the same type of stainless steel back, and the other general features are pretty much the same.
Summary: One of these models is the best watch in the world, but I'm just not sure which one. |

I've owned one of these since I was in high school.. and that was back in the days when they still had black boards
Pro's
the watch is very easy to program and very intuative.
count down timer
repeatable event alarms
DST on off setting
multiple time zones
light can be set to flash when alarms sound
long battery life
non volital memory {you can change the battery and not lose data
low / small profile I've had data watches that sick out on your wrist so bad it's like wearing a ball and chain .. literally!
this watch is small fully functional and comfortable to wear
CON's
the book is about the size of your pinky.... but because the watch is so intuitive you really don't need it except for the special features
and I'm told you can download or print a full sized manual off Casio site
no PC or computer interface... this watch would be the bees knees if it had a PC connection similar to the Casio PC Unite.
no secured area for phone numbers.. lose your watch and anybody that finds it has all your phone numbers.. but hey maybe they'll call a friend and return your watch!!
with all that said
after 15 years of wearing one of these I had to change the battery twice
once right after I got it and again about seven years ago.
I wear my watch all the time and after all these years it still works fine but from use the letters had started to wear off...
so I figured my old watch had more that paid for itself and it was time to upgrade.. I figured after 15 years there MUST be a better watch out there..... well guess what.. there aint!!

A Watch -- and a Poor Man's PDA!

| Reviewer: D. W. Johnson, Charlotte, NC USA |
I love this watch. I previously had a Casio Data Bank 150 and loved it! I had the 150 for about 6 years. Not bad for a less than $50 watch! When it finally began to have serious enough problems that the watch needed to be replaced, I already knew I needed the successor -- the Data Bank 300. (The 300 refers to the number of memory slots available in which phone numbers, names, and other short reminders can be stored.)
I called this watch the Poor Man's PDA -- and it is! Its great! I'm delighted with it.
Buy it... I bet you'll like it too! |

In addition to the basic watch with day and date I mostly use the telephone data storage and also the stop watch (especially for cooking). Hope this also lasts for several years. |

20 years plus....

| Review Date: March 9, 2008 |
| Reviewer: D. German, VA USA |
I bought my first databank watch over 20 years ago in Hong Kong and was very happy to have a way to keep track of phone numbers. Unfortunately, the hazards of living on a navy ship claimed this one. So, I bought another when I got back to the US. The first one only had room for 30 records; the second only 50 and now it is up to 300. I've always heard the saying "a short pencil is better than a long memory". But who wants to carry a notebook around all the time?
I believe this is my 6th databank. So one might think that I am a bit abusive to my watches. But this brings out the only negative thing about the databank; and that is that it is a bit on the fragile side. So, if you work in an industrial environment it might not be a very good choice.
Otherwise I am still giving it the top rating. I look forward to the say when it has text to speech and then becomes a wirelss device a la Dick Tracy. |
Quintessential Nerd Watch

This is the best of the databank series in terms of functionality, but not the best in ergonomics.
With 300 data set shared memory, you can have any combination of phone numbers or alarm schedules that will ring perpetually or once. This watches' design has not changed in over 10 years after a generation of prior versions with less memory, true metal casings, incandescent lighting, or a flat keyboard that did not have letters fade, leading to the pros and cons of this model. I've had this one particular model for over 10 years and several Casios like it over the past 20 years.
PROs
300 item shared memory
LCD back lighting saves battery life
Flash memory for memos/schedules, won't disappear with a battery change
consistent 2 year battery life even with all the alarms ON
stop watch
timer
world time
calculator
alarm clock
Screw-on case allows user to change battery easily
takes shock abuse
Accurate to within a minute a month, often less
CONs
Water resistant not water proof
Resin case will break after exposure to sweat for years. I found replacing the strap with a 'The Band' style velcro straps protects the case from sweat. I now have the same watch unblemished over 10 years old.
Resin strap will crack and break in under 2 years. Change it to something like 'The Band'.
Silk screen lettering on keyboard fades
Small LCD fonts can be hard on older eyes
Somewhat difficult to learn to use, at first

These data bank watches can become indispensable. I have been wearing one for at least 30 years. I get new ones when the case breaks where the pins for the watchband are. The watch itself never fails. These cases last about 10 years and I wear them playing sports. They are not waterproof but resist water.
I keep all of my appointments on the watch since I no longer have a super busy schedule. The advantage is of course that the watch is always with me. I have moved my telephone contacts to my cell phone, but I keep a few important ones also on the watch as well as some passwords.
Initially the watch had a speaker in it and would dial a touch tone phone acoustically. Neat trick which I never used, but the alarm was nice and loud and always woke me up. After this watch with the speaker was discontinued, the follow on model was not as loud but usually awakened me. This most recent model is even quieter, so I now set my cell phone alarm for wake up but the alarm is just fine for daytime reminders. I never miss an appointment. |

My Data Bank Watch DBC310-1 was exactly what I ordered and received. The old Databank 150 started to fail after about 12 years of service. I ordered the new Databank 300 to replace the 150 & it is the Exact same watch with 2x the memory. I didn't have to read the instruction book because it operates the same as old watch. I was lucky, I was able to retrieve my list of phone numbers from the old watch, and put them on the new watch. One more thing, I would like to see Casio Data Bank with Solar power and Atomic time keeping.
I received the new watch in a timely fashion. Pleased with the product and service. thanks |

A great backup for your data
|
| Review Date: September 15, 2009 |
| Reviewer: Reuven Zasler, Karmiel, Galilee Israel |
This, and its predecessor with 150 memory items, have been a great help to me; I've used them as backups for data storage.
Anyone who has a hectic, varying work schedule like myself knows that too much backup is not enough backup! This watch has saved my skin several times when my pda's broke down; they kept me on the move and enabled me to reconstruct my data on my other machines.
In addition, when you need to be constantly reminded of what's next on your schedule, or when you keep forgetting exactly when you have a certain appointment, it is far more fast and convenient to press a couple of buttons on the watch that's always in front of you than to fish out and open up a pda.
The alarm function was good enough to wake me up early in the morning when I served in the army.
I agree with some of the negative criticisms: the watch should have been designed to hook up to a pc; it should have been constructed to operate on atomic time and the pins holding the bands are a royal pain.
That being said, I'm going to continue using this watch into the future, expecially after having read the reviews of the "more advanced" model.
Unfortunately, Amazon will not ship the watch to my country, so I shall need to puchase it locally and more expensively. |

Know that my cell does everything the watch does plus more but the 300 phone number storage, calculator on the wrist, etc. beats out the phone for accessability and convenience. Just wish they'd have a dress model. (would have given it four stars since they don't have a dress model but want to give it six or seven it's such a great watch) |

| This is a fantastically reliable and useful watch! I had the first one for more than 10 years until it failed because of excessive heat. It has pretty much everything you need, including a timer, calculator, world time, reminder and alarm. The battery needs to be replaced only every 3 years or so. The ability to tell the day and date are also useful, without any adjustments - features that are usually not present in many analog watches. The new version has some subtle differences in the materials used and seems a bit better engineered. The basic design is the same. I was glad the model was still around since I first bought it! |

This watch / calculator has everything I need and a lot that I will not use.
I love the sleek low profile, the easy to use raised buttons and the ability to see the time, date, day all displayed on the main screen.
I don't have the patience to load anything into the databank (I have that info on my cell) but for those who don't have a cell, it's a nice feature.
I'm sure I will eventually use the timer and chrono feature, but I do know I will use the calculator function a lot.

| I always wanted one of these Casio calculator watches...now that I have one I'm not disappointed! I reviewed all of the different models and this one seemed to have the least amount of complaints. Its not mentioned, but the numbers on the buttons themselves are printed under the surface, so there's no need to worry about scratching them off by typing with your fingernails. The durability of the letters/alternate function guides surrounding the buttons I'm not sure...it looks like its a single (metallic?) sticker and I would imagine the printing shouldn't wear off anytime soon. Its a bit difficult to keep the buttons held down for viewing the most recent Schedule (+/MC button) or Telememo (+/M+ button), but I think it just takes some getting used to as it's getting easier for me. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and I'm really appreciating the little Schedule indicator at the top (beats carrying around a planner)! |

| I have had three of these watches in the past few years. They function well, do what they'e supposed to do, and are very helpful. However, the printed alphabetic characters underneath each button will wear off in about 18 months, after which you haved to memorize which button corresponds to which alpahbet character. Not as hard as you might think, but irritating. Secondly, the watch case pin holes where the watch band pin attaches the band to the case will tend to erode or pull out over time. I've had to replace one perfectly good watch because I couldn't get a replacement band to attach. |

| I bought this for my husband who has had the the same one for about 10 years. His finally stopped keeping a charge and he lost all his data. Figured it was time for a new one. He uses the watch as his calendar and date organizer. He puts all his appointments into the watch. The watch front shows the whole week as little boxes along the top and little ovals will appear in the boxes if you have set an appointment for that day. He uses it daily and also keeps notes on his watch. The only problem he has had is the watch is plastic and the black paint will wear off. The watch band also will break but you can get a cloth/leather replacement band and it will last for alot longer. The watch is waterproof as far being able to be able to go in the shower. I wouldn't recommend going swimming with it. Overall it is a great watch, but would recommend buying a new watch band for it. I would give it 5 stars if the body was made out of metal. |

Casio kept true to form on this one. Everything works as we expect it to, and unlike my first databank watch, it has a light.
The word "light" is rubbing out after having this thing a few years, and I've had to replace the resin band. Aside from that, I get great battery life by turning the little beep feature off, and sparingly using the alarm, and light.
However, like all Casio digital watches, this one always seems to get ahead 30 seconds. So, you will want to reset the time every month or so. I reset mine 30 seconds behind because I think it levels off at some point.
Data does not get lost when battery is changed. The calander display is nice because you know at a glance something is coming up this week, or the next.
A pc-link, enhanced display, and better band would make this a definate 5 star product. A color oled display would rock.
Let the world have their slips of paper, notebooks, and fancy schmancy PDA's. This has everything I actually need on it. |

| I have been wearing a DBM-150 for the past 10 years and needed a new replacement Casio DataBank watch. I am disapointed in the DBC-310-1 because you can only input 8 characters per line, but you can input 16 characters, double the amount, in the DBM-150. I guess this is how Casio can say they have 300 pages but can only use half of the memory character wise. Also, there is no password secured data input on the DBC-310, but memory is on an EEPROM that is not erased when you change batteries. Otherwise, they are identical; however, the difference is significant. If I could do it over, I would order another DBM-150. |

These watches are antediluvian. I love 'em. I've been using them since the last millenium, and I tried some of the newer watches. These're older than my 3 kids. I remember when I first realized the damn thing contained a 100-year calendar that allowed me to figure out the day of the week for any date, years in the past or future, just by temporarily setting it to that date. My skin's allergic to most metal, once it corrodes a little, so the black plastic and stainless steel on this one is fine. I just wish they'd update them a little. For example, the "This/Next/Week" strip across the top is WASTED REAL ESTATE. Useless. How about a strip of real calendar, like two weeks, or just one, with the actual dates? And why can't I set more than one daily alarm? More digits on the telememo? Oh well, nits. This is a nerd classic.
Update (2010): I guess the EDB610 was Casio's answer to the update requests. Not a good one. Only 5 schedule-memo/alarm entries (biggest complaint); simpler calculator with no constants & no memory function; bizarre phone number display; too many keystrokes to do simple things; left/right buttons are backwards. Download the manual from Casio and check it out before springing for it. |
What's Right, what's wrong

| Have to agree with most everyone's comments about this watch. I've been using them since the first one that had a glued on keypad and very disapponted that Casio has appeared to "moved on" to a data bank watch that looks much more in style, has a metal case and band BUT DOESN'T STORE APPOINTMENTS, the most important item next to the ability to store phone numbers. If they could wrap my present Data Bank 300 into the style of the "new kid on the block" or just add the appointment feature to the new watch I think they'd have a 1/4 million sold in the first three months, I'd be buying three (my brother, best friend and myself). I hate to have to leave my trusty black plastic watch behind when I attend conferences or evening functions but let's face it, it's a plastic watch. Casio, can you hear me? I have the newest watch, sits in dresser drawer - just not as good of a watch for my purposes. |
please up date the watch

| This is my second dbc310-1. I like the multi-functions. but I thank two things ought to be changed. (1) Change the band to a material other than rubber. (2) Change the numbers on the keys so they don't ware off as quick as they do. |
Does everything it should (but too small)

I like this watch and liked the price even more, but I find the buttons difficult to press (I use the edge of my thumb nail). You can find other Casio watches which store phone numbers, which are much easier to use, look better, are solar powered, etc. - and don't cost much more. Of course if you have to have a Calculator and Scheduler on your wrist, this is the watch to go for.
The Scheduler is actually great for birthdays/aniversaries, because you can see events coming up 2 weeks before they occur. But personally I can't be bothered taking it off and using the tiny buttons to type in other events (ie. "Meeting"); it's too fiddly and the text/numbers on the screen are actually quite small (compared to several other Casios I own, and prefer).
So in summary -- if you're looking for a cheap watch which can store loads of phone numbers, alert you to birthdays etc, and has a calculator, this watch is great for the price! (if you have sharp eyes!) Otherwise, you might want to search for other Casio Databank watches which you can still get for under $100 (and they may be solar powered, have 5 alarms, auto illumination, etc. etc.) |
This watch does it all

This is my 3rd Databank watch. This is my every day watch. I use the alarm daily to jump start my day. The calendar is there to remind me where I need to be. Don't forget phone numbers (I don't trust me cell with my entire phone list). I also use the stop watch daily to test my electric meters every business day.
When I wore out my last Data Bank watch out last month, there was no question what watch I would buy - I replaced it with an identical Data Bank watch. For me, there is no other watch. |
Great Watch

I got this watch to replace another style Databank watch that had issues.
I like the features and ease of use. Although the display is slightly smaller than my last watch, for all your basic needs, it performs well.
Anyway, for the price and the features included, it is a great value. |
Happy to find a source for the DATABANK watch

| I have had a Casio Databank since they first came out in the early 1980s, and have happily replaced each one in turn as it failed for whatever reason (the usual failure was a break in the case where the band attached). I work in the medical profession and got used to having and using the calculator feature, storing telephone numbers, setting alarms, and using the memo feature to remind me of upcoming things that would need my attention. This was before getting an Ipod Touch, which, of course, has many many more features, yet I still rely on my Databank to do basic things because it is right there on my wrist. I was dismayed when my last Databank started to fail and couldn't find it among the Casio watch selection in stores. In a moment of inspiration, I decided to try Amazon and there it was, still available! |

Casio has been making similar watches for a long time. They have not listened to the complaints about the wristband pins coming loose. The rubber wristband suggests a water resistant watch, but none of the current batch are listed as such at the Casio web site- and the rubber band just looks & feels cheap. Some still have problems with lettering rubbing off. Casio has made only (and few) trivial changes over the decades. After what Apple did to the cell phone industry you would think that Casio would want to move quickly into the 21st century. An iWatch would crush Casio Databank sales.
But if you want info on your wrist today what other options are there? I've been generally happy with mine over many years. I swim & shower with them (though I'm not sure if that is possible with the new one I'm going to buy). The glass crystal on my last one has only one tiny scratch while the plastic case is pretty beat up. I can still read all the printing on my old 300. The protected memory becomes very important when you have a lot stored in there. My 300 was waterproof until I changed the battery the second time. The rubber seal loses its shape and probably should be replaced and lubricated with each battery change.
I agree with another reviewer that the weekly reminders at the top of the window are a waste of real estate- the important info should be much larger and easier to read. And why are they still using the crude seven segment display characters when we've had proper LCD displays available for decades? Information could be presented with more flexibility on a high res display.
I recently purchased a similar Casio model which has no name- it is simply called 'Module No. 2888'. It has calculator and a bigger display of useful information and a 10yr battery life but it has many flaws- not water resistant, plastic crystal that will scratch badly, no alphabetic input buttons... I will return it and buy another 300 model unless Apple produces an iWatch in the next few days.
Here's a tip: switch immediately to a twistoflex type wristband for your Databank. I believe that occasional pulling stress on the (unflexible) rubber band weakens the holes that hold the pins. My Speidel band has been on all my Casios for around 25 years and the pinholes are in good shape. The alternative is to set the original rubber band very loose which you may find uncomfortable. |
An Old Favorite

This is the fourth one of these I have owned so it is obvious, I like this watch.
It has great features but they have not been updated or added to in years. I wish it would tie into the atomic clock because it does tend to be a few minutes off over time. I also wish you could view a full monthly calendar.
Finally, and most importantly, I wish they would make a real metal case. The "metal case" they have is just plastic one made to look like metal. ALL of my replacements have been necessary because the plastic cases failed where the band pins are inserted so you cannot put the band back on. Not convenient as a pocket watch!
Each time I had the case break, I have looked for a different watch with all the features of this watch, especially the appointments, but haven't found one that had all of them or I would have tried it. |

Five stars for functionality but one star for weak body

I have been buying these watches because you can enter appointments into the watch's memory using its keyboard rather than having to rely on a PC-based interface. The watch also has stopwatch and timer functions that I like. Other watches seem to lack this particular functionality. They rely on PC's to do the input which is inconvenient when you don't have a PC around.
Five stars for functionaliy.
Now to the problem. The body is weak. Typically the part where the pin holding the wrist strap is anchored to breaks off after about two years because the body is plastic. The gasket keeping the watch somewhat water-resistant distends. I wish they'd put this watch in a G-shock body.
One star for robustnes.
Overall 3 stars. |
Poor case durability.

| I've just ordered by fourth Data bank - because of it's usfullness - Over 18 years the case&lettering failed. Lettering chipped and faded - case band ears broke off. I just returned an EDB610D I purchased in Jul 09 from the US Navy Exchange (Pearl Harbor - Hi). I ordered another Model DBC310-1 Data Bank in hopes it will last the rest of my life - (DOB 19Nov1929). I travel/ed a lot and relied on 90 - 130 tele numbers. Durability is not the strong suit of the watch case!. Earl Hollingsworth, 808-623-9834. |
Nice but no snooze and has quiet alarm

| First, this is a great watch if you need to schedule alarms and do math. My short complaints are the fact that the alarm is too quiet and it has no snooze function. The other thing, of course, it looks geeky to have a calculator on your watch--some sort of cover or touch screen might hide it better. It really is a great piece of technology overall though. |
